How to Wear...

So I'm going to be trying this new thing on my blog. I will be taking photos of my outfits and making sets of them on Polyvore and posting them here. Now, I'm not a model nor am I some skinny-minnie. I have thighs and a butt and everything else that comes with them so please don't expect me to be some super model. I will include only affordable items with the outfits so that you can go get the same outfit yourself or something like it. I'm not rich either so most of the clothes I get are from T.J.Maxx or stores like Forever 21. I will call these posts "How to Wear: _____ Edition" and I will post my first one either later today or tomorrow. Depends on how quickly I can get my set done (I have to be a work later so it might be tomorrow lol).

Polyvore HQ Meetup.

polyvore meetup.

Last week, I was in San Jose for the Polyvore Meetup. I had received an invitation a few months before and was super excited to go. The whole thing was whirlwind and I still can't believe I got to go. My previous post has a lot of photos of the trip if you want to look through them and the one before that has photos of all the gifts I was given.

I arrived in San Jose on Thursday and that night we all met up at Lavande Nail Spa which was right around the corner of our hotel, Hotel Valencia. The hotel was on a street called Santana Row, which reminded me a lot of La Cantera. It had a bunch of really nice shops like Gucci, Kate Spade, and Brooks Brothers, and some shops for the younger generations like Anthropolgie, H&M, and Urban Outfitters. It was beautiful outside and the weather was great. (Anyone from San Antonio knows that allergies are just awful this time of year but in the San Francisco Bay area, there were no allergies for me. It was great to be able to just breath again!)

After going to the nail spa and getting to meet the other members who were also invited, some of the ladies and myself wanted to walk around and visit some of the shops on Santana Row. I had really good time just hanging out with the other ladies, especially Anna (albs) and Anne-Maire (bamaannie).

The next morning we all had breakfast together at the hotel and I got to meet more people who work at Polyvore, including Jess Lee the CEO. We did a round table at breakfast and just introduced ourselves and said our Polyvore user names and where we are from. When I introduced myself, "Hi, my name is Aimee and my Polyvore user name is elizabethsaysrelax..." Jess gasped and everyone kind of laughed. She then replied in a soft whisper, "You're famous!" I was so shocked that she knew who I was! I expected that a few people would know just because I had been talking to them for a while like Nadia and Chrystal. But I didn't expect Jess to know! It was such a bizarre experience to have people recognize me not because they had met me before but because I'm a veteran member of Polyvore. It was so bizarre but really nice. Everyone who works at Polyvore is so nice and you can really tell that they all love their jobs.

After breakfast, we all headed to Mountain View to the Polyvore offices and we got a tour. We met more people who worked there, including the team that works on the contests and the team that works on the apps. We got to ask them all our burning questions about anything and everything. They had a photobooth and we took some really silly photos. Bare Minerals was also there and gave us some 'make-unders'. After that, we had a happy hour and just go to hang out with everyone who works there. It was so fun! I had such a blast and I wish that I could have just stayed there, ha!

Leave of Absence

I haven't posted in a long time. Life gets in the way of pretty much everything I do now. I remember being a kid and feeling like I had all the time in the world, maybe too much time. Things didn't move fast enough for me and I couldn't wait to grow up. Now that I've "grown up" (I'm 24 and I graduated college so I guess that makes me a grown up now) I feel like I never have enough time and that life is just passing me by. I'm sure every twenty-something year old feels that way at some point.

I've been working hard on trying to be a better "me". I've recently been saved and found Jesus (even though he was always there). I love my church family and I spend the majority of my time with them. Finding God has made me a more stable person, a more grounded and understanding person. It's a constant journey though but I look forward to it. I want to be the best me I can be and I know that I can only do that with God.

On a lighter note, I have also been invited to a MeetUp at the Polyvore HQ in California this next weekend. They are this wonderful website that mixes social networking with fashion, design, art and shopping! I will be posting here in more details than I will be posting on my Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr. I know that it's going to be wonderful experience for me and it's going to be something that I will tell my children and they probably will think I was crazy. I mean, who just jets off to California having never been there and meets complete strangers? And, this isn't my first time either! I did meet my two friends, Sam and Kate, on Polyvore and we all meet up for the first time in Chicago for Lollapalooza. So maybe I am crazy lol.

15 Reasons Why I Miss the 90s

15. Playing MASH

Whenever my sisters and I were bored and had nothing else to do, we would play MASH. We always had categories of 'Husband', 'Job', 'House', 'Kids', 'Car', 'Wedding Dress Color', and 'Pet'.

14. TLC
Their album 'Crazy, Sexy, Cool' the first cassette I ever owned.

13. Sabrina the Teenage Witch

I wish I could have a talking cat!

12. Mary-Kate & Ashley

I loved their cheesy, kid movies! Remember the one where they had to go into the witness protection program or the one where they saved a dude ranch?

11. Hanson

Mmmbop!

10. Will Smith

Yes, yes we all love 'Fresh Prince' but I loved Will Smith because his songs where catchy and his a pretty damn good actor. 'Men in Black' will always be one of my favorite movies.

9. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

I would play this game non-stop in the summer! It is one of the best video games I have ever played.

8. Sony's Walkman

I got my Walkman on my 9th birthday along with TLC's 'Crazy, Sexy, Cool', Leann Rhimes' 'Blue', and 'Happy Nation' by Ace of Base.

7. Clueless

The movie and the TV show!

6. Kid Pix

A great way to waste time in the Computer Lab.

5. Charmed
 I've seen every episode!

4. Jonathan Taylor Thomas

Dare I say the original Justin Bieber?

3. Nickelodeon

Legends of the Hidden Temple, Getting Slimmed, All That, GUTS, Double Dare, Good Burger, Rocket Power, Hey Arnold, CatDog, Ren & Stempy, Rugrats, Doug, Figure It Out, Kenan & Kel, Clarissa Explains It All, Rocko's Modern Life, Pete & Pete, Are You Afraid of the Dark.... I could go on forever!

2. The Spice Girls
They are my favorite girl band ever. I still listen to their music to this day!

1. Boy Meets World
"Finn-nay, finn-nay, finn-naaay!" I loved this show growing up and I am so glad that they are bringing it back in the form of Cory and Topanga's daughter.

Where the Padre never stops

I went to the coast this weekend with my family. I got to see my older sister who moved to Oklahoma with her new husband and their two kids. I haven't seen them for almost a year to it was really nice to hang out with them again. We all went down to Corpus Christi and South Padre. We stayed in some condos that were actually on Padre Island but they were still right next to Corpus. We got to fish right in our backyard and we were literally five minutes away from the beach. Here are some photos I took over the weekend.

It has been stormy for the past week in San Antonio and it wasn't any different when we left. I snapped some photos of downtown SA while we drove by. In the first photo you can see the Tower of Americas in the background. The last photo is of the Alamodome where they host various events but mostly it's used for football games. We don't have NFL or AFL in San Antonio but UTSA has their own team.

These were the Hibiscus flowers in front of the condo we stayed in. They were perfectly gorgeous.

This was our "backyard" where we got to go fishing. My nephew caught a hermit crab out there!

My nephew photo bombed this photo I was taking of the sun setting on the beach! Such a silly goose!

That's the bridge that connects Padre Island to Corpus Christi.

Those kind of photos might be overrated to some but they were fun to take! I actually think they turned out really cool looking. I had fun at the coast but man did I get sunburn! That's what I get for being pale genetically, I guess.
