Last week, I was in San Jose for the Polyvore Meetup. I had received an invitation a few months before and was super excited to go. The whole thing was whirlwind and I still can't believe I got to go. My previous post has a lot of photos of the trip if you want to look through them and the one before that has photos of all the gifts I was given.
I arrived in San Jose on Thursday and that night we all met up at Lavande Nail Spa which was right around the corner of our hotel, Hotel Valencia. The hotel was on a street called Santana Row, which reminded me a lot of La Cantera. It had a bunch of really nice shops like Gucci, Kate Spade, and Brooks Brothers, and some shops for the younger generations like Anthropolgie, H&M, and Urban Outfitters. It was beautiful outside and the weather was great. (Anyone from San Antonio knows that allergies are just awful this time of year but in the San Francisco Bay area, there were no allergies for me. It was great to be able to just breath again!)
After going to the nail spa and getting to meet the other members who were also invited, some of the ladies and myself wanted to walk around and visit some of the shops on Santana Row. I had really good time just hanging out with the other ladies, especially Anna (albs) and Anne-Maire (bamaannie).
The next morning we all had breakfast together at the hotel and I got to meet more people who work at Polyvore, including Jess Lee the CEO. We did a round table at breakfast and just introduced ourselves and said our Polyvore user names and where we are from. When I introduced myself, "Hi, my name is Aimee and my Polyvore user name is elizabethsaysrelax..." Jess gasped and everyone kind of laughed. She then replied in a soft whisper, "You're famous!" I was so shocked that she knew who I was! I expected that a few people would know just because I had been talking to them for a while like Nadia and Chrystal. But I didn't expect Jess to know! It was such a bizarre experience to have people recognize me not because they had met me before but because I'm a veteran member of Polyvore. It was so bizarre but really nice. Everyone who works at Polyvore is so nice and you can really tell that they all love their jobs.
After breakfast, we all headed to Mountain View to the Polyvore offices and we got a tour. We met more people who worked there, including the team that works on the contests and the team that works on the apps. We got to ask them all our burning questions about anything and everything. They had a photobooth and we took some really silly photos. Bare Minerals was also there and gave us some 'make-unders'. After that, we had a happy hour and just go to hang out with everyone who works there. It was so fun! I had such a blast and I wish that I could have just stayed there, ha!
